      Signed from Weymouth in July 1991, the former Welsh under-21 international has seen his Saints career persistently hampered by a variety of injuries, which have limited his number of appearances for the club to 64. Hughes missed the majority of last season after undergoing a knee operation in August, although he did make a comeback in February to play his part in the club's successful battle against relegation. However, there was no respite for the midfielder when he injured his knee in pre-season which has prevented him from figuring in the club's plans for this campaign. Hughes has just been given another years extension on his contract to prove himself to management.
